When we talk about tradition and alternative tourism we can not exclude Greek traditional good food!
With closed eyes, but with all the other senses and in particular the sense of taste in full function, we present and propose to you "Remoutsiko", a traditional Greek tavern since 1982 in the area of Agios Dimitrios that meets all prerequisites for an unforgettable gastronomic experience, but not only!
This tavern is particularly well-known for its quality Greek meat and its hand-made appetizers. It has been awarded for "The best spare ribs of Athens" in 2016, by the readers of the "Athenorama Alpha Guide" and in 2017 it was recognized by the gastronomic website "estatorio.gr" as "The best Greek tavern" in the category "Traditional Greek Cuisine".
The story of the Remoutsiko tavern begins in the early 1980's when Kostas Dimas decided to turn his grandfather's cellar and stable into a hangout for friends. His love and passion for good food upgraded the neighborhood hangout into a beautiful spot with a friendly and warm character. Over the years, it passed into the hands of his two sons, Elias and Panagiotis, who contributed with their ethics, their insistence on quality food and their knowledge, to become one of the most popular traditional taverns of Attica.
The name "Remoutsiko" comes from the slang word "Remoula", which means scrounge or “for free”. This word was often used by Kosta`s grandfather every time he attended friendly events, celebrations, etc. As Kostas' grandfather died early, he named the tavern "Remoutsiko" in his honor.
The Remoutsiko tavern is the ideal place to eat throughout the year! During winter you will feel like eating in a traditional tavern on a mountainous village in Greece, while in the summer its magnificent green courtyard will remind you an island.
The companionship of the two fireplaces, combined with the traditional decoration and the family atmosphere, travels the friends and guests of Remoutsiko in another era...
After many visits to the Remoutsiko Tavern, besides the ewe lamb chops, which you must try (you cannot find it easily in Athens!), we suggest Ilias' « Kontosouvli», the «Stuffed Burger» of Panagiotis, the handmade small pasturma pies and the oven baked eggplant with organic tomato and feta cheese from Delphi.
Every Wednesday evening in Remoutsiko, apart from the incredible food that we taste and the friendly and professional service we receive, we enjoy Greek live music!
After eating quality and tasty food in the warm and friendly atmosphere of Remoutsiko, we are absolutely sure that we will visit it again soon....It`s a promise! Do you still think about it?
